Aluminum vs Vinyl Fence: Which Is Right for Your Mountain Home?

Both are low maintenance and built to last, but they do different jobs. Here is how to choose between aluminum and vinyl fencing in the High Country.

Two low maintenance fences, two different jobs

Aluminum and vinyl are the two most popular low maintenance fences we install, and homeowners often weigh them against each other. The truth is they solve different problems. Aluminum is an open, ornamental fence that defines a space without blocking the view. Vinyl is most often a solid privacy fence that closes a space off. Deciding between them usually comes down to whether you want to see through the fence or not.

Both share the big advantage over wood: they never rot, never need staining, and shrug off our wet mountain weather with almost no upkeep.

When aluminum is the better choice

Choose aluminum when the view matters. On a mountain lot, an ornamental aluminum fence marks your boundary, encloses a pool to code, or dresses up a front yard while keeping the ridgeline in sight. It follows a slope cleanly, comes in classic black, bronze, or white, and gives a refined, timeless look that never rusts.

It is also the go to for pool fencing because it can meet the self closing, self latching, non climbable requirements while staying open and elegant.

When vinyl is the better choice

Choose vinyl when you want privacy and a solid, finished look. A vinyl privacy fence blocks sightlines and wind, defines a backyard or patio, and stays bright and clean for decades. It also comes in picket and rail styles if you want the maintenance free benefit in a more open design.

In our climate, quality matters: better vinyl has thicker walls and reinforcement that hold up to cold and impact, which is what we install rather than thin bargain panels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which lasts longer, aluminum or vinyl?

Both last for decades with almost no maintenance. Aluminum is essentially immune to weather, and quality vinyl holds up beautifully as long as it is a good grade with proper wall thickness.

Which is more expensive?

Costs overlap and depend on style and height. Ornamental aluminum and solid vinyl privacy are both mid to upper range. We can price both for your project at your free estimate.

Which is better for a sloped yard?

Aluminum racks with the grade and is excellent on slopes. Vinyl privacy panels handle slopes by stepping down in sections. We will recommend the cleaner look for your grade.
