Overview
Building a fence in the mountains is not the same as building one on flat ground. Slope, rock, freeze and thaw, wind, and local code all change what works. After nearly thirty years building across the High Country and Western North Carolina, we know how to set posts that hold, follow grade cleanly, and finish a line that looks right on a mountain lot.

Materials
Material choice is half of what makes a fence last here. For wood we work in pressure treated pine, cedar, and locust when available, in two rail and three rail designs with optional welded wire backing for pets and livestock. Vinyl comes in picket, privacy, and rail styles that stay bright for decades without staining. Metal means powder coated aluminum and heavy duty steel with flat top or decorative pickets, and chain link is available galvanized or vinyl coated in black, brown, or green with multiple heights, gauges, and optional privacy slats.
Privacy fencing can be built vertical or horizontal, standard or board on board, in six or eight foot heights, from pressure treated pine, cedar, composite boards, or vinyl. Every option gets the same foundation: posts set below the frost line for our freeze and thaw, on layouts planned for slope and grade.
Our Standard
The difference between a fence that stands straight for twenty years and one that leans after two winters is almost never the material. It is the installation. Freeze and thaw is the quiet force behind most fence failures in Western North Carolina: water gets into the ground around a shallow post, freezes, expands, and slowly heaves it out of plumb. That is why we set posts deep, below the frost line, with the right footing for the soil on your specific site.
Mountain lots add their own demands. We plan layouts around slope and grade so rails follow the land cleanly instead of stair-stepping awkwardly, we account for rock when it sits a foot below the surface, and we hang gates on hardware that keeps them swinging true through years of daily use. Corners, transitions, and terminations get the same attention as the long runs, because those are the details you see every day.
None of this shows up in a photo the day the fence is finished. All of it shows up five years later. It is the reason county governments, businesses, and hundreds of High Country homeowners keep calling us back for the next project, and why we are comfortable standing behind every fence we build.
Many towns and counties require fencing permits. As a North Carolina licensed general contractor (GC #107410), we manage zoning, setbacks, permits, and approvals ourselves, so your project moves forward without delays or paperwork on your plate.
